Disciples of Jesus

At Godfirst being and making disciples is at the heart of what we do because, it’s the centre of the mandate of the risen Jesus. To go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20

Baptism

Baptisms are always an exciting outward demonstration of the internal change people have experienced after believing in Jesus and becoming Christians.

We have baptisms at various points throughout the year, but mostly in warmer months as we baptise outside in the Lower Hall courtyard. Every baptism we hear great stories of God’s saving grace and see people plunged under the water as a symbol of their dying with Jesus and raise out of the water as a symbol of living new life in the power of the risen Jesus.

"A disciple is a learner, a student, an apprentice – a practitioner… Disciples of Jesus are people who don't believe something by merely saying we believe it, or even when we believe that we believe it, no disciples of Jesus truly believe the gospel when we act as if it were true by apply their growing understanding of life in the Kingdom of the Heavens to every aspect of their life on earth." Dallas Willard

As disciples of Jesus, we desire to be with Jesus, to become like Jesus and do the things that Jesus does. Sharing life together in Godfirst Communities and smaller groups of Three are practices that are focused on growing as disciples as Jesus.

A disciple is on the journey of being formed into the image of Jesus (Romans 8: 29, Gal 4:19). We understand that disciples of Jesus are formed in the following ways: What our heart loves; The stories, the truth we believe; The community we inhabit; The experiences of our lives; and the daily routines and practices of our lives.
